My Sister Wants Me in Her Wedding
My sister is getting married next summer and she asked me to be a bridesmaid, and everyone in my family is acting like this is some huge sweet moment, but I honestly don't know how to feel about it. We were never really close growing up. She used to make fun of me a lot, especially about my weight and how I dressed, and I know siblings can be mean but some of the stuff she said stuck with me way more than I think she realizes. As adults we're fine, like we can sit at Thanksgiving and have a normal conversation, but we're not close at all. We don't call each other, we don't really text, and we've never had any real conversation about how things were when we were younger. When she asked me, my parents were so happy and kept saying this could be the thing that brings us closer. I get that maybe she's trying, but it also kind of annoys me that I'm supposed to just accept this public role in her wedding like we have this amazing sister relationship when we don't. I don't want to make her wedding about me and I don't want to start drama, but I also feel weird standing up there pretending everything is good when she's never apologized or even acknowledged any of it. Would it be selfish to say no, or am I making the past too big of a deal?
